What to expect:
This Rasa Gentle & Restorative class is a combination of gentle hatha yoga and restorative yoga, honoring the nectar the nourishes and heals.
The aim of the class is to downregulate the nervous system so there will be focus on breath-work, slow movement, awareness and meditation.
The class begins with a short talk about the class theme (often inspired by personal experience, myth or a philosophical concept to be explored in the practice), followed by an invocation in the form of calling to the highest (sankalpa), chanting and centering. The main bulk (the doing part) of the class contains embodiment in the form of no-strain warm-ups like simple modified sun salutations, cat-cow etc. From there we'll move through a few gentle poses that aim to mobilise the spine, hips and shoulders and releasing tension. The being part of the class brings you through a sequence of 3-5 restorative yoga poses where we use bolsters, blankets, belts and blocks to provide the optimal support for your body and mind. The restorative poses are held for several minutes, focusing on releasing tension, deep relaxation and staying present.
The final part of the practice will often be a guided embodied meditation and breathwork (pranayama).
As in all Rasa Yoga classes we finish with an offering, remembering to honor our teachers and dedicate our practice for the benefit of all beings
